A LEED ® Gold Certified conversion and extensive renovation of an existing 28,450 sf motel into a new public visitor center with administration offices, exhibit viewing areas, environmental education classrooms, conference center, and multipurpose rooms for community use. The project includes the sustainable redevelopment to support a permeable paved parking lot, native plantings, bio-swales, and wetlands. The center received the “ Outstanding Facility Award” by the Illinois Association of Park Districts and the Illinois Park and Recreation Association.

Designed by FGM Architects, Featherstone, Inc. was engaged by the Bartlett Park District to provide project management services for the design and construction phase of the project which included the complete interior renovation of the existing 17,000 sf building, a new 5,100 sf commercial kitchen to service over 500 patrons, a new 5,000 sf Ski Chalet, and a new 380 car parking lot.

The reconstruction of the existing north facade to make way for the new entrance to the Looking Glass Theater. The project included an extensive underground structural system to eliminate the structural loading on the City's one hundred year old water mains in order to support the new stone terrace, stairs, handicapped ramp, and raised planting beds. The Pumping Station received the 2003 Chicago Landmark Award for Preservation Excellence.
